Instructions.

  1. Make a duct tape square which will later be used to create a custom boot for the hoof. Rip strips of duck tape and use a wall to place them vertically, overlapping each strip halfway. Continue until a rough square is formed a little bigger than the size of the hoof. Then do the same thing in a horizontal manner. Use scissors to cut a slit in each corner to make it easier to fold over the hoof later.

  2. Pick up the foot, and use your pick and brush to clean the hoof well.

  3. Apply the poultice wrap or ointment.

  4. Apply the cotton or gauze to the bottom of the foot. Even a baby diaper works well for padding.

  5. While holding the pad in place wrap the hoof with vet wrap making sure to go above the coronary band and heel bulbs.

  6. Take your duct tape square and place over bottom of hoof Be sure to fold over the corners covering each side hoof.

  7. Place the foot on the ground and reinforce with duct tape around the top as needed.

  8. Make sure the bandage is not too tight around the pastern. You should be able to fit a finger under the bandage and see the wrinkles in the vet wrap. Cutting a small slice in the vet wrap at the front of the foot will also help to make sure it's not too tight.
